Trip award
Selecting Recipients
The Whippoorwill Foundation welcomes applications from individuals of any age who are living with a severe or terminal illness.
Requirements
-Have a severe or terminal illness documented by a licensed physician.
-Provide medical documentation to The Whippoorwill Foundation confirming the applicant's qualifying illness.
-Be able to participate safely in the selected hunting or fishing experience, as determined by the applicant, their medical provider, and the Foundation.
-Be located within the United States.
Physical limitations do not automatically prevent someone from participating. The Whippoorwill Foundation will make reasonable efforts to accommodate recipients with physical limitations whenever possible. Depending on the recipient's circumstances, this may include adaptive equipment, accessible locations, guided experiences, modified hunting or fishing activities, or other reasonable accommodations that allow the recipient to participate and enjoy the experience.
Each selected recipient will receive one hunting or fishing experience, with one companion permitted to accompany the recipient. The total amount provided by The Whippoorwill Foundation for the recipient and companion will not exceed $5,000 per trip.
Depending on the trip, foundation funds may be used for eligible trip-related expenses such as:
-Transportation
-Lodging
-Meals
-Equipment
-Required licenses, permits, and tags
-Adaptive equipment or accommodations when appropriate
-Guide services
-Other reasonable expenses directly related to the approved hunting or fishing experience
Any expenses exceeding the $5,000 maximum award will be the responsibility of the recipient and/or companion.
Trips are awarded as funding becomes available. Applications are not continuously open.
When The Whippoorwill Foundation has raised sufficient funds to sponsor a trip, an application period will be announced. Following the close of the application period, applications will be reviewed by the Foundation's leadership and Board of Directors, and a recipient will be selected.
Our goal is not simply to provide a hunting or fishing trip. It is to provide an opportunity to create lasting memories with family, friends, and loved ones during an especially meaningful time in life.
The recipient and their companion will be required to complete a waiver.
Every application represents a person and a story. We are honored to consider each one.
The Whippoorwill Foundation reserves the right to determine eligibility, approve trip arrangements, and establish eligible expenses on a case-by-case basis. All trips are subject to funding, availability, and applicable laws, regulations, licenses, permits, and safety requirements.
